Arabic Coffee Brownie Cookies

Arabic coffee is a wonderfully fragrant caffeine pick-me-up. It’s rich, dark, sweet and infused with cardamom. While I had tried Arabic coffee a few times growing up, I came to truly enjoy it when I visited Iraq in 2019. At the hotel where I was staying in Erbil, Arabic coffee was abundant any time of day in the lobby. Sometimes, one of hotel staff would include a piece of wrapped chocolate alongside the cup of coffee. The combination of chocolate and cardamom coffee was heavenly. That heavenly combination inspired these Arabic Coffee Brownie Cookies.

For those who are unfamiliar, Arabic coffee involves grinding coffee beans into a fine powder and then boiling them in a small pot, called della in Arabic. Almost everyone adds cardamom while sugar is optional. Though, from my visit to Iraq, I can tell you that Iraqis love their sugar, so they always add it.

Keep in Mind

  • You will need to prep the dry ingredients, chocolate and egg-sugar mixture separately.
  • Use good quality dark chocolate. My go-to chocolate brands for baking are Guittard and Ghiradelli.
  • Once everything is mixed, you want to move fast and get these cookies in the oven quickly.

These cookies are surely heavenly 💕
They just have the perfect 👌🏻amount of proportion of Chocolate to coffee to cardamom and sugar.
The way they melt smoothly into your mouth with a taste of coffee and chocolate mixed with cardamom with a little crunch of chocolate chips, is absolutely exquisite. An elegant and satisfying dessert that goes very well with your coffee 😉
